History is filled with stories of daring innovators who had the audacity to dream of one day conquering the sky. The moon, stars, and the tapestry of the night sky are all responsible for some of humanity’s oldest legends and mysteries. In One Giant Leap, Cantus explores and celebrates the allure of upward exploration, the triumph of the human spirit, and striving for excellence through innovation and technology.

Few journeys on our planet are more dangerous than journeys across the oceans. There Lies the Home celebrates the courage and fortitude of early explorers who risked their lives on the tumultuous great blue unknown to make the world a little more connected. With riveting sea shanties such as Lowlands and Shenandoah, as well as the bombastic typhoon of Veljo Tormis’s Muistse Mere Laulud, There Lies the Home finally arrives back ashore with Edie Hill’s beautiful, haunting A True Heart is Waiting.

Take a journey with Cantus into the land of fantasy and magic. Continuing Cantus’ tradition of highlighting solo voices and duets, Cantus draws on the work of composers who explore the miraculous and imaginary. This program centers on Donald Swann’s song cycle The Road Goes Ever On, settings of texts by J.R.R. Tolkien from his monumental work The Lord of the Rings and other writings about Tolkien’s Middle-earth universe.
