AUDITION INFORMATION

Cantus is always accepting audition materials from tenors, baritones, and basses interested in joining the ensemble, but is not currently seeking to fill a position. Openings for the 2020-21 season will be announced no later than April 1, 2020.

As a member of the eight-voice, artist-led vocal chamber ensemble, you are provided with an annual 52-week contract (August-July), full-time salary with benefits, quarterly voice lesson reimbursement, daily per diem while on tour, and six weeks of vacation. In the 2019–20 season our artists made a starting salary of $47,000. 

Based in arts-friendly Minneapolis, MN, Cantus tours an average of 13 weeks a year, performs an expansive home concert series of five different subscription programs, and has an active schedule of education outreach both in the Twin Cities and across the country.

Application submissions must include the following:

  • A completed Application Form
  • Cover Letter (PDF only)
  • Headshot (1MB or less for electronic submissions)
  • Resume (maximum of 2 pages, PDF only)
  • A collection of recordings (MP3 only) that include the following:
    1. At least two (2) varying vocalises of your choice in order to show range and control of register shifts
    2. Three (3) solo repertoire selections. At least one must be classical, and one must be in a language other than English. Selections should contrast in style (aria, art song, musical theater, gospel, jazz, pop).

To submit electronically (stongly preferred):

  • Include your last name in all file names (example: yourlastname-resume.pdf, etc.)
  • Compress all documents into one zipped file with the following title format:
    yourlastname-auditionmaterials.zip – then email the zip file to auditions@cantussings.org
