Greetings, friends of Cantus,
As we turn the page to a new fiscal year and gear up for our 31st season, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible year we’ve just wrapped. Our recently completed 30th season was nothing short of extraordinary, and it’s thanks to you, our loyal audience, supporters, and community, that we are celebrating a truly standout year.
Together, we closed the season at 115% of our budgeted goal and welcomed more than 10,000 guests to Cantus performances in the Twin Cities. That’s nearly 1,000 more attendees than the season prior. What’s clear is that interest in Cantus is growing. And your enthusiasm and continued support are fueling our momentum.
Each of our five Hometown Series concerts played an important role in this success:
• Wanting Memories opened our season with warmth and heart, resonating deeply with audiences.
• Christmas with Cantus, always a fan favorite, held strong to our goals and filled halls with seasonal joy.
• The Secret Letter offered a thought-provoking journey and surpassed attendance expectations.
• Covers brought familiar favorites to life in a fresh new way, reaching over 1,200 people in person.
• In the Wee Small Hours, our closing program, soared to an incredible to more than doubling its goal, proof that our storytelling and musical risk-taking continue to connect with audiences in powerful ways.
What’s driving this growth? We believe it’s the unmistakable power of the human voice in harmony. Unamplified, sincere, and artist-led. Our audiences are seeking more than just concerts; they’re craving connection, reflection, beauty, and joy. And they’re finding it in Cantus.
As we look to the year ahead, we are filled with excitement. Season 31 features five brand-new concert programs, each continuing our mission to engage audiences through rich, resonant music-making. And in a truly special engagement, we’ll welcome our friends The King’s Singers from England for a collaborative concert you won’t want to miss this coming February.
To our singers, staff, volunteers, and most of all you, our audience. Thank you. Here’s to continuing this incredible journey together.
With gratitude and anticipation,
Shelley
